Support Hotshots 19
This Labor Day our box hosted one mega WOD for about 40 crossfitters. They kept it a mystery until day of, which had us speculating. The running bet was Hotshots 19, a new WOD in honor of the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots, a firefighting team who were lost in an Arizona wildfire this June.
The CrossFit community has been actively raising money to support the Hotshots' families, and hosted a memorial event this past weekend. So it wasn't a total surprise walking into the box and seeing it written on the whiteboard:
RX: Six rounds for time of:
- 30 Squats
- 135 pound Power clean, 19 reps
- 7 Strict Pull-ups
- Run 400 meters
Scaled (that's me!): Six rounds for time of:
- 30 Squats
- Med Ball Power clean toss, 19 reps
- 7 Jumping Pull-ups
- Run 400 meters
The squats were a breeze, and the med ball tosses doable. Surprisingly it was the run that slowed me down the most. The air was dense and hard to breathe, and I wasn't ever able to get as fast as I should've.
And it cost me, I was one rep into my last set of pull ups when we hit the 35 minute time cap. 5 + 50 was my final tally. So. Close.
There's always next time. And there's still time to donate to the families of the Hotshot 19.
