Do New Things
"Regularly learn and play new sports." This is how Glassman concluded the infamous fitness credo that would launch a million Crossfit affiliates. Straight to the point, just how I like it.
The other weekend in the spirit of "learn and play new sports", I tried out snowshoeing. Ok, ok. So I'm using sport very loosely here. It felt a lot like walking, but with strappy things on your feet. Still, I was after 1.5 hours of tramping around a forest reserve outside of Chicago, I was wiped.
But mentally I was refreshed. The long, bitter winter here in the midwest had beaten the joie de vivre right out of me. Routine is the enemy, people. So is staying cooped up in your apartment. Here's to the new things!
And, lest we forget:
"Eat meat and vegetables, healthy fats, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports." ~ Greg Glassman
