I have to seriously cut back on sugar but… I love it so much. Especially chocolate. Do you have any tips for those moments when I would usually be knocking back a sleeve of Oreos? Thanks.
Gina Duffy, Founder of SheShreds.co: Use alternatives to fill the chocolate void. I have found LOTS of vegan, gluten free, refined sugar-free chocolate-y and “cheese-y” recipes that are insanely awesome! And yes, there is a chocolate tea — I just got it!
Emily Kelly: The best food choice advice I ever got was from my stepmom. She always told me to make your food worth the calories. Like, if you’ve got a sweet tooth, if you’re going to indulge make it worth it—dont waste it on a snickers bar when you could be getting good dessert somewhere.
Not sure why but it’s always helped me to not binge on junky junk food. Otherwise, just making sure to have healthful foods stocked so it’s easier in general ot make the healthy choices.
Jess Vetter: When out drinking I try to alternate beer with fizzy water, which if you think about it, isn’t that far off of cheap beer like a Coors Light. I have a great recipe for a Granita – which is a good caffeine-free alternative to an iced mocha.
COFFEE GRANITA – most ingredients can be found at Whole Foods or on Amazon.

• ½ cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
• 2 tablespoons raw cacao or carob powder (adds chocolate flavor)
• 1 tablespoon maca powder (High Energy – You will feel wired from this!!!)
• 1 teaspoon lucuma powder (makes it slightly sweet)
• 1 teaspoon mesquite powder (optional)
• 1 tablespoon flavoring extract (vanilla, coconut, or whatever flavor you like)
• sweetener to taste (optional)
• 1 cup ice
Directions: Blend all ingredients together until you have a coffee-like “slushie.” With the amount of powder, highly recommend using a blender to mix this. You can pre-make a set of them and leave them in mason jars in your fridge (minus the ice) to grab and go.
